Vanitas

These drawings and paintings are inspired by vanitas still lives, which illustrate the concept of mortality through symbols such as skulls, burning candles, and cut flowers.  The ephemeral nature of the subject matter - cicadas, moths, and leaves - is a reminder that life is fleeting.  This message is all the more prescient due to environmental concerns like climate change and habitat loss.
